Our End of Summer Adventure Camp

Every year during the last week of August and the first week of September my husband takes two weeks vacation and our family hosts a family camp. We do lots of at home activities that the kids wanted to do during the summer and never got around to, or things they really like to do and want to do one last time before summer ends. But we also go new places each year. They are usually short day trips, but this year we went camping at two campsites in Maryland. Let me show you some of the fun things we did this year:

We kicked off the camp on Friday night after my husband finished work. We had a Mexican fiesta with a taco bar and pinata. During the next few days we did such activities as making a castle cake from scratch. We baked the cake in the morning and decorated it in the afternoon. We made foil sculptures and play things. They decorated the sidewalk with chalk even after it got dark! We made tie dye t-shirts. We picked apples and made applesauce. We made a pinaqua, which is a trash bag filled with water that they can hit with a stick until it bursts. We had water fun -finally got out the water slide, water balloons, water pistols, etc.
We made homemade marshmallows (pink!), had a bubble fest, foot print art mural, went fishing at a local pond. We went to a local beach and made plaster-sand casts. We had a wonderful time being together having simple fun.

Wow! What a LOT of fun and effort! I'd like the recipe for homemade marshmallows :)

The recipe can be found at my family blog http://bergspot.blogspot.com/2008/09/camp-bergenholtz-day-11.html
It really wasn't as much effort as you would think. We just casually did it day by day, activity by activity. It was alot of fun.
